Have you ever been to a place and thought it’d be interesting to know it from a local point of view? Me too! During my travels, I always think it would be different and interesting to see what the people that actually live there see. I want to know what they eat in the morning, where they go out, and what they buy in the supermarket. Especially, I wonder how would vegan people’s life looks like.
In the 21st century, we can totally fulfill this wish. I’m talking, of course, about local social media accounts. I can’t tell you how thankful I am for all the inspiration I receive, especially from Instagram. Instagram is actually my favorite social media platform, since it’s the most visual and therefore a little more ‘artistic’, I suppose. My favorite content is of course – vegan food! That’s why I love to follow vegan foodies’ accounts. That’s why I love to follow the accounts of vegan foodies. It’s actually my guilty pleasure – but why should I feel guilty alone when I can take you with me? 😉
In this post I will share some of the more inspirational Instagram accounts I’ve discovered in Japan. It constantly gives me new ideas and useful information – which is a great reason to share it with you!
Accounts with Extremely Useful Information
🌱 @diethelper. Kyoto. Wonderful Chisayo will tell you about all (and I mean ALL) the places in Kyoto city and the surrounding area that serves vegan food. She also writes the opening hours in the descriptions in both English and Japanese. This is an extremely useful account in the Kyoto area.
@vegansofkyoto. Kyoto. Not only vegan meetups, but also places to eat, special offers! This account will help you fit into the vegan community in Kyoto!
@tokyoveganmeetup. Tokyo. Just as the above account is based in Kyoto, this one is in Tokyo. If you’re in Tokyo, or planning to visit the big city and participate in vegan meetups or workshops – follow this account!
@tokyoveganguide. Tokyo. Another great account to discover where you can get some vegan food in Tokyo. It has lots of information!
@veganjapan. Japan. Where to eat, what to buy, eating out or at home – this account has the answer to all these questions!
Inspirational Vegan Life
@vegangirlintokyo. Beautiful Abby will show you her vegan culinary adventures around Japan, mainly in Tokyo. I really hope I’ll get to visit some of these amazing places soon!
@theveganisland. Gorgeous Alina will take you with her to experience vegan Tokyo (mainly, but also other cities) as you’ve never seen before! She mentions each location so you can follow her favorite places too!
@fromthecomfortofmybowl. Absolutely mind-blowing ideas of what to cook for yourself at home. Some of it is Japanese food, some is really not. Very inspirational indeed!
Inspirational Vegan Places
@vegan_glutenfree_choice. Great photos of the café’s desserts and dishes. It really makes you want to grab one – or in my case, makes me want to make some 😁
@haretoketo. Raw vegan chocolate and many more amazing dishes will be waiting for you on this account. And guess what? It was so good that I decided to dedicate a post to this place (coming up soon). Very inspiring pictures!
@ikushirokusano. This plant-based patisserie in Kumamoto will make you want to take a one-way train there. Amazing desserts!
@ainsoph_jp. The official account of Ain Soph Journey. They really know how to take photos!
These are my best recommendations for vegan accounts in Japan. I hope you’ll find some nice accounts to follow and get to absorb the atmosphere of vegan life 😊. Obviously there are plenty more accounts to follow – feel free to share them in the comments!

July 12, 2019 at 4:22 pmSo many I didn’t know about, thanks! The Japan Vegan Labeling & Options Project Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/japanveganlabelingproject/ has information about our petition for vegan labeling in Japan https://www.change.org/veg_en
We collect signatures, keep people updated on how the petition is doing and also share info about vegan products in Japan, products that are not vegan but look as if they might be (so you know what to watch out for) and organize writing in to companies to ask for more vegan options.
